The specs are in every article about these controllers. The sentence that decides whether you can buy one is in almost none of them.
Can you buy the black GTA 6 DualSense controller?
That depends entirely on where you live, and it is the one detail most coverage skipped. Sony announced two limited edition GTA 6 DualSense controllers at the 3 September State of Play, both at $84.99, with preorders opening 10 September and launch on 19 November alongside the game. The two editions do not share a distribution model. The white one is going to PlayStation Direct and participating retailers globally, in limited quantities. The black one goes through PlayStation Direct where PlayStation Direct exists, and through select retailers everywhere else. If you are in a country Sony does not serve directly, the black controller is not a preorder you place at ten in the morning. It is a question of whether a retailer near you chose to stock it, which nobody can answer for you yet.
What Sony actually confirmed
Two limited edition DualSense controllers in Vice City colours, both at $84.99, announced at the State of Play on 3 September. Preorders open 10 September at 10am local time, and the controllers ship on 19 November, the same day as the game.
The prices were given in four currencies, and the preorder timing was published for the United States and nine European countries. That is unusually specific for a hardware announcement, which makes the vagueness elsewhere more noticeable.
The distribution split is the whole story
The white edition: PlayStation Direct plus participating retailers, globally, in limited quantities. The black edition: PlayStation Direct where available, and select retailers in other regions.
Those are not the same sentence. PlayStation Direct only operates in a handful of markets. For everyone outside them, the white controller has a defined retail path and the black one has a conditional. That is the catch, and it sits in a single line of the blog post rather than in any of the spec tables.
Why this hardware exists at all
Sensor Tower's preorder estimate is the commercial answer. Accessory tie-ins get made when a publisher can see demand large enough to justify a production run, and the preorder numbers for this game are large enough that $84.99 controllers are an easy decision.
That figure is an estimate from a third party rather than a Sony disclosure, so it sits at the reported tier. It explains the decision without confirming anything about volume.
What Sony has not said
How many units exist. Whether there will be restocks. Whether a matching console cover is coming. Whether there is a per-order cap to slow scalpers. Anything at all about Xbox.
That list matters more than the specs, because every one of those unknowns is something a buyer needs on 10 September and none of them will be answered before preorders open. Limited quantities with no published number is a phrase that does work for the seller and none for the buyer.
What to do on 10 September
If PlayStation Direct serves your country, that is the reliable route for either colour. If it does not, check now which local retailers have listed the black edition, because finding out at 10am on the day is finding out too late.
