Sony has put two things in writing: the price and the time. Everything that decides whether you actually get one sits in a single sentence most guides read past.
Where can you pre-order the black GTA 6 DualSense?
Only from PlayStation Direct if you live in one of the ten countries where that store operates, which is the detail most pre-order guides got wrong. Sony's own blog post gives the two editions separate sentences. The white edition is available in limited quantities globally at direct.playstation.com and at participating retailers. The black edition is available in limited quantities exclusively through direct.playstation.com where available, and in other regions through select retailers. PlayStation Direct runs in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Italy and Austria, with Portugal pointed at playstation.com instead. So if you are in one of those ten and you want the black one, you are buying from Sony directly or not on day one. Outside them, it depends entirely on whether a local retailer was selected, which nobody can tell you in advance.
What Sony actually put in writing
Two limited edition controllers, one black and one white, both shipping 19 November alongside the game. The recommended price is $84.99 in the United States, £74.99 in the United Kingdom, €84.99 across the euro zone and 12,480 yen in Japan. Pre-orders opened 10 September at 10am local time, which in the United States meant 7am Pacific and 10am Eastern. Eligible pre-orders through PS Direct get free launch day delivery.
All of that comes from Sony's own PlayStation Blog post, published under its vice president of global marketing, so it is confirmed rather than relayed. It is unusually solid ground for a story on this site.
The price only means something next to the other prices
A standard DualSense lists at $74.99 in the United States, making this a $10 premium. The 30th Anniversary DualSense, the closest comparable special edition, launched in November 2024 at $79.99. So Sony has moved the limited edition tier up $5 in under two years.
That figure says nothing about how many were made. It says where Sony currently thinks the ceiling sits for a licensed pad, and it is not worth reading further into than that.
The line the guides keep getting wrong
Some live guides published this week claimed the blog post never mentions participating retailers. It does, for the white edition, in the sentence immediately before the one about the black edition. The two sit next to each other and scan alike, which is presumably how it slipped.
It is still the wrong detail to get wrong, because it changes which tab you should have open at 10am. Why the black edition is locked to PS Direct while the white one is not is unknown. It could be a production split, a term in the Rockstar deal, or Sony keeping the colourway it expects to sell better on its own storefront. Only the wording exists, so only the wording is reported here.
The precedent, which is the closest thing to a forecast
Nobody has stock numbers, so the useful comparison is the last pad like this. The 30th Anniversary DualSense went up for pre-order on 26 September 2024 at $79.99 and sold out at PlayStation Direct and Amazon within hours, with other major retailers going the same way. Resellers listed it on eBay through 2025 at roughly $125 to $280.
Then Sony restocked it in July 2025, with PlayStation Plus members getting access on 21 July and everyone else on 23 July. That restock is the part people forget when they treat a sellout as final. The bet, flagged as a bet, is that day one moves fast, that the black edition goes first because it has a single door, and that a restock lands before 19 November. One precedent is not a pattern, so hold the last part loosely.
The thin bit, and what nobody has said at all
A retail listing surfaced in the Netherlands showing the white controller at €89.99, five euros above Sony's own figure, alongside a report of one buyer getting through checkout early with shipping restricted. That traces to one live blog citing one retailer page and one forum post. It could be a retailer pricing above recommendation, a placeholder typed in early, or something else entirely. It is reported at best and is not worth changing plans over.
What is missing is larger: no quantities, no per-account limits, no word on whether PS Direct will gate orders behind PlayStation Plus the way it did on that restock, and nothing on Xbox. Secondary coverage says there is no Xbox version and nothing contradicts it, but neither Sony nor Microsoft has stated it, so it stays reported.
